Bondora Superstars #3 — Özgün Akay

👨‍💼Bondorian since: 2018

💻Role: Email Marketing Specialist

🚀Team: Marketing Outreach

You can just see he loves dissecting data all day long 🤓

Coding, emails and data, data, data

For the last six years, Özgün Akay has been coding emails and creating thousands of campaigns with various email service providers. Then, in October 2018, he moved from Istanbul to Tallinn and became the Email Marketing Specialist Superstar at Bondora🎉.

Since then, he’s been supporting the Marketing Outreach team to create data-driven, dynamic, and highly-targeted marketing campaigns. During a typical day at the office, he creates industry-leading email campaigns and ensures they’re delivered to our customers in the best way possible. He utilizes targeted planning to execute premier results and best practices within the digital ecosphere, incorporating identification of key risks and applying lessons learnt in client communication and engagement strategy. In plain English? He’s the email marketing Superman at Bondora and we love him for it.

“Email design and development is old school. While watching the quick development of all other web-based technologies around you, you continue your day with software standards that are still trending from the 90s. So, coding emails brings tears to most developers’ eyes. Luckily, I’m here to make sure our developers won’t shed a single tear over an email at Bondora.”

Spirit animal: A phoenix. According to ancient civilizations, phoenix feathers have healing powers. They can also overcome difficulties, have abilities to foresee the future, and are aware of all the secrets of the universe. Not to mention, they’re majestic 🐦

Besides making developers’ days easier, Özgün loves seeing our customers get the wealth they dream of through Bondora. “The most rewarding part of my work is watching our customers build wealth in a relatively short period of time. Whether their dream was to have more time with family, more financial freedom or to build a legacy to pass along to their children, I love having played a part in helping them get there.”

📚 Özgün’s must-read book:

“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life” by Mark Manson. The title says it all!

Speaking of legacy… Let’s talk about investing

Özgün started investing in 2015, but right now, he’s trading more money than he’s saving. Like many people, he prioritized investing in himself and people rather than investing in money or property. Because that way, he knew he could reach the wealth he needed in a shorter time.

His investment portfolio:
Özgün’s been trading with cryptocurrencies since 2015. But he wouldn’t recommend beginners to invest in the crypto market, especially if they can’t control their emotions, don’t know how to take risks, or don’t plan on trading.

Alternatively, he suggests Go & Grow for the risk-averse investor:

“If you’d rather swim in shallow waters and stay away from the sharks, Go & Grow your money with Bondora, sit back, relax and enjoy your daily returns.”

Wise words:  “Be patient, don’t stop investing and look for opportunities.”

And what are your future investment plans?

“These aren’t the easiest times for investors. While I’ll continue to trade on different exchanges, I’m planning on buying quality stocks and holding onto them for the long term.

And I’ll make a point to follow my own advice: “Find a way or make one.”

On a personal note

Pineapple on Pizza?

No way!

What’s your favourite food?

It’s one of the famous Turkish kebabs called ‘Beyti kebab’.

And what food do you refuse to eat?

Okra. You can say it’s my kryptonite 😆

Now you know a little more about our very own Email Marketing Superman. And congrats on the two-year work anniversary, Özgün!
